Year 10 and Sixth Form students at The Victory Academy in Chatham welcomed 21 inspirational Kent women to their school last Friday 3 March  to celebrate International Women’s Day. Students and staff across our Trust recently took part in World Book Day on Thursday 2 March, dressing up as their favourite book characters, reading books and themed workshops. Cedar Children’s Academy held a special assembly with staff reading extracts of their favourite books and All Faiths Children’s Academy paraded their costumes on stage, searching for ‘Where’s Wally?” pictures that were hidden around the school, an inter-house book quiz and an “Extreme Reading” competition. Exeter University report acclaims ‘learning journey’ of Portsmouth school as it is accredited as a Thinking School. Children and staff at Isambard Brunel Junior School in Portsmouth are celebrating earning a prestigious award from the University of Exeter, as the school becomes one of only about 100 schools in the country to receive “Thinking School” accreditation. Students and staff at The Gordon Children’s Academy are celebrating after their very first Ofsted inspections from Ofsted saw both the Infant and the Junior School rated “Good” in every category. The two reports highly commend the Academy, in Strood, across all areas of inspection by Ofsted, including leadership, quality of teaching, student outcomes, and early years provision. Heads of two primary schools in Portsmouth have announced plans to join our Trust. Meon Junior School, in Southsea, and Moorings Way School, in the east of the city, are aiming to join from 1 July this year, after consultation with parents has taken place. The Victory Academy hosted their second ‘V Factor’ event earlier this February, to celebrate the artistic achievements of their students. This event differed from traditional school concerts as the students prepared and auditioned to be part of this unique performance opportunity during November last year.  Successful acts were assigned a mentor with whom they rehearsed, to ensure they were performance ready for the final show. Joseph, a student at Holcombe Grammar School has become the ‘Champion of Champions’ for YET Netherlands Ten Pin Bowling.  Having qualified first in his division and then winning gold, he finally competed in a roll off division of champions to win the tournament. We are all proud of Joseph and congratulate him on his success as is his family who are grateful for the continued support and encouragement Holcombe Grammar School has given Joseph in helping him to achieve his goals.

Bev Lewis, long-standing Religious Education Teacher at The Portsmouth Academy, has been voted Best Teacher in the city in The Portsmouth Youth Voice Awards 2017. The Portsmouth Youth Voice Awards are designed to give a voice to young people in the city, and to increase their involvement and awareness of the issues that concern them. Millions of pounds could be injected into city schools to help transform education and provide hundreds of extra places for students to learn. Students and staff at Newbridge Junior School in Portsmouth were joined by VIP guests to celebrate the grand opening of the school’s new site for its Year 6 pupils, The Bridge, at The Portsmouth Academy.
