The competition was divided into two parts and followed the central theme of “submerged”, focused on exploring the ocean and the varying habitats found within the different ocean layers. To start the day, the team of Year 8 pupils participated in the innovation project, where they identified and researched a problem linked to the ocean theme. They gave a fantastic presentation on a piece of creative technology that they had designed to prevent a solution to coral bleaching.
Following this, the pupils gave a short presentation outlining the process they used to create a Lego robot, which they built and programmed. Through this presentation, the pupils outlined the psystems they used to design their robot, including the coding they created, and the reasons behind why they chose to design it this way. They then tested the robot by having it complete a variety of nautical challenges within a set time limit.
Throughout the competition, teams were assessed on their alignment to the First Lego League's core values of teamwork, impact, inclusion, fun, discovery, and innovation. This work is a wonderful representation of the STEM learning and exploration that takes place across our school's curriculums and how it can be explored in an engaging and unique way.
