Paignton Academy hosts successful Handball and Tchoukball Festival for local Primary Schools

Paignton Academy recently opened its doors to 150 enthusiastic Year 1 and Year 2 children from neighbouring primary schools, including Kings Ash Academy and Curledge Street Academy for an exhilarating Handball and Tchoukball Festival.

The event highlighted six exciting activities centred around these fast-paced and skilful games, providing an opportunity for pupils to develop essential skills such as throwing, catching, dribbling, shooting, dodging, and teamwork.

Assisting in the coordination and facilitation of the festival were the dedicated sports leaders of Paignton Academy - enthusiastic secondary students who had applied for this valued role.

These young leaders underwent training in preparation for the event, demonstrating their leadership qualities as they guided the primary school children through the various activities. Their commitment to ensuring that primary pupils were fully engaged, learning, and, most importantly, having fun, was truly commendable.

Mr. Julyan, the event coordinator at Paignton Academy, expressed his delight with the outstanding performance of the sports leaders and the overall success of the festival: "It was heartwarming to witness the joy and enthusiasm of the children throughout the event, as well as the professionalism and dedication displayed by our sports leaders.

“Their positive impact on the children's experience was undeniable, and I have no doubt that they will continue to excel in their leadership roles."

A primary student from Kings Ash Academy said: “It was so much fun.”

Sports festivals not only provide a platform for fun and skill development but also strengthen the bonds between Paignton Academy and the local primary schools.

Following this event, primary schools will continue to visit Paignton Academy for further sports festivals - an exciting opportunity that highlights the significance of working together and engaging with the community.

Jay Davenport, Regional Director of Education at The Thinking Schools Academy Trust, commented: “It is lovely to see schools join forces to offer such experiences, nurturing not only athletic skills but also fostering a strong sense of community and teamwork among our youngest learners.

“Such events represent the spirit of 'Stronger Together,' transforming life chances through the power of sports and togetherness, paving the way for brighter futures."
