The initiative, involving nearly 40 members of staff this year, aims to bolster support for colleagues in various aspects of their work by developing a robust set of coaching skills.
The programme welcomed participants from a diverse range of roles within the Trust, including headteachers, classroom teachers, and office managers. This diversity underscores the inclusive nature of the initiative, ensuring that coaching support is accessible at all levels and across different functions within the Trust.
One of the newly certified coaches, Jane Backhouse from The Portsmouth Academy, shared her positive experience: "The BASIC coaching course was a great introduction to coaching colleagues. Through the process of completing the journal, I was able to reflect on current practice and refine it using the BASIC approach, which provides a framework to structure effective coaching conversations. I have been able to then draw on this approach in my coaching work and can use this alongside other strategies such as the Walkthrus coaching programme."
Building on the success of the initial cohort, a new group of aspiring coaches has commenced their journey through the BASIC Coaching programme. They aim to achieve certification by the summer, further expanding the Trust’s capacity to provide high-quality coaching support across all its areas and roles.
