The Bronze Arts Award is designed to develop young people’s creativity, leadership, and reflective skills through engagement with the arts.
As a two-time Platinum Artsmark School, The Victory Academy champions creativity and cultural education as a core part of its curriculum. This achievement reflects the academy’s ongoing commitment to nurturing artistic talent and promoting cultural understanding among its students.
The journey began in Year 7, when students embarked on an inspiring project exploring Adinkra symbols, traditional African symbols from Ghana that represent concepts and proverbs, dating back to the 1800s. Guided by the academy’s dedicated Arts Department, students researched the meanings behind these symbols and created their own identity symbols to celebrate the diversity of cultures and identities within their school community. They combined research with practical weaving skills to design decorative canvases showcasing their unique symbols, resulting in a stunning collection of creative work.
The school ensure that students understand the relevance and importance of this award, with Year 8 student, Isla, reflecting on the experience, saying: “I really enjoyed completing the Arts Award in year 7 because it was a different kind of art which I found really fun. I feel proud that I have a qualification in year 8 and this can help me in the future.”
To honour this achievement, Tristan Osborne MP joined the academy to present certificates to the students.
Oliver Owen, Headteacher of The Victory Academy, praised students, saying: “I am incredibly proud of our students who have worked exceptionally hard to achieve this Bronze Arts Award. It demonstrates both their determination to achieve and true love of the Arts. “Well done to all students involved and to our amazing Arts Department for supporting them through the process.”

This accomplishment not only highlights the students’ creativity and perseverance but also reinforces The Victory Academy’s role as a leader in arts education. By embedding cultural learning and creative expression into the curriculum, the academy ensures that every student has the opportunity to thrive and develop skills that will benefit them far beyond the classroom.
