Brixham College has been accredited as a Thinking School by the University of Exeter, a national recognition awarded to schools that successfully deliver cognitive education into their teaching and learning.
By embedding this approach, the college empowers students not only to achieve academic excellence but also to develop essential lifelong thinking skills that will support them well beyond their school years.
A cognitive approach to teaching and learning promotes the use of ‘Thinking Tools’ such as De Bono’s Six Thinking Hats to help students in being more productive, focused, and mindfully involved in their work.
In a thrilling celebration of science and discovery, Brixham College and Paignton Academy, recently joined forces to bring the ‘Wonderstruck’ science event to primary school children across the Torbay area.
Wonderstruck explores the history and science of rockets, tracing their development from the discovery of black powder to the cutting-edge advancements of space exploration and beyond.
The four-day event was split across both Brixham College and Paignton Academy welcomed over 500 Year 5 and 6 pupils from local primary schools. They experienced an unforgettable mix of explosive experiments, hands-on learning, and jaw-dropping demonstrations.
Brixham College recently welcomed Caroline Voaden MP, who visited the school to meet students and share valuable insights into how Parliament is run and how important issues can be raised for discussion.
During her visit, students eagerly asked her questions on topics ranging from wildlife conservation to the inner workings of Westminster.
One student asked: “What are your views on the conservation of wildlife in the local area?”
Ms Voaden responded: “It is really important; climate change goes hand in hand with protecting nature.”
