Competing against schools from across the county, the gymnasts delivered exceptional routines demonstrating skill, resilience and determination.
In the Gold category, Year 8 student Olivia secured the Devon title, with her teammate Sofia, also in Year 8, finishing in an impressive second place.
This success was mirrored in the Platinum category, where Sienna in Year 7 was crowned County Champion, followed closely by fellow Year 7 student Freya, who achieved a runner‑up finish.
All four students progressed to the County Finals after initially being selected through virtual qualifiers, having had just two days to learn and practise their routines.
Highlighting their commitment and ability to perform under pressure, Miss L. Jayne, Teacher of Physical Education at Brixham College, praised the students for their exceptional achievement:
“Olivia, Sofia, Sienna and Freya had already done Brixham College proud by reaching these finals, so for them to be the top performing gymnasts in their category is extraordinary.
“To have seen off all the brilliant competition from across Devon is testament to the girls’ hard work, determination and drive to succeed”.
Reflecting on their achievements, Olivia spoke of how well her friends competed and looks forward to more opportunities to engage with gymnastics.
“I feel really happy to have won my category and be crowned Devon champion; well done to all the other Brixham girls too.
“I really hope there are more gymnastics competitions in the future for us to compete in”.
Across the Thinking Schools Academy Trust, personal development and extra-curricular activities are essential parts of learning.
Sport enables students to grow in resilience and self-reflection, while showcasing their successes to the wider community.
Miss R. Blackshaw, Principal at Brixham College, emphasised how the students have embodied the spirit of the school:
“These four students are not just a credit to Brixham College but are also shining examples of how life chances are transformed within the Thinking Schools Academy Trust.
“They reflect our child-first approach and commitment for every child to aspire to be their very best.
“It’s wonderful to see their efforts and achievement recognised at county level and they deserve every bit of this success”.
