Goodwin Academy receive community donation for International Women's Day

International Women's Day is an annual event to celebrate the "social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women."

Celebrated each year at the Town Hall, the community of Deal, Kent, hosted a 'Sparkling Reception' networking evening for women to mark International Women's Day. It was an evening of supportive company and great conversation.

The event was free to attend, but guests were encouraged to donate gifts of either period products or hygiene products to help local people struggling with period poverty, resulting in more than 100 items being donated for the community.

In March 2024, the Worshipful Town Mayor of Deal, Cllr Oliver Richardson, and Town Clerk Lorna Crow visited Goodwin Academy to deliver a selection of the donated period and hygiene products to the school as well as to local charity, United Families UK.

Lorna said: “No one should have to miss school because they don’t have any period products.
“By asking guests to make a gesture of support, we’re not only raising the issue; we’re providing practical help too.”
