Paignton Academy celebrates remarkable achievement as staff member with cerebral palsy walks 225 metres to raise over £6,000 for Rowcroft Hospice

Paignton Academy is delighted to announce an extraordinary feat of courage and determination by one of its very own.

Luke Kenshole, who has been wheelchair-bound for a long time due to cerebral palsy, is a dedicated Learning Support Assistant at Paignton Academy and an alumnus.

He overcame tremendous odds as he walked an impressive 225 meters with the assistance of a walking frame along Paignton Seafront. This remarkable achievement was not only a personal triumph but also a heart-warming fundraiser for our local hospice, Rowcroft.

“We’re very grateful to Luke for his amazing support and we’re so impressed by his tremendous determination and achievement,” said Debbi Shotton, Rowcroft Hospice’s Senior Community Fundraising Officer.

“He’s an inspiration to us all. The money raised will be used to provide vital specialist end-of-life care and support for local patients with life-limiting illnesses and their loved ones.”

Luke's inspiring journey on Saturday garnered significant attention, as a large group of 250 staff, family, and friends gathered to support and cheer him on. The incredible effort and resilience he displayed during this walk left everyone in awe.

Headteacher of Paignton Academy, Derwyn Williams, expressed his pride and admiration, saying: "Luke's determination and optimism are qualities that inspire us all at Paignton Academy. His incredible achievement is a testament to his unwavering spirit and the strong sense of community that defines our school."

Luke's initiative not only touched the hearts of those close to him but also resonated with the wider community. He successfully raised over £5,853 for Rowcroft Hospice, an organisation that provides specialist end-of-life care and support to local people with life-limiting illnesses, and those closest to them.

Luke Kenshole, reflecting on his journey, shared: "I'm truly grateful for the support of my colleagues, friends, and the entire community. This experience has been incredible, and I hope it can shine a light on the important work that Rowcroft Hospice does."

Luke's journey embodies the Paignton Academy values of Believe and Achieve, and we hope it will inspire others to contribute to the Paignton community's wellbeing.
