Paignton Academy's Rising Star Soars to Success at The British Gymnastics Championships

Paignton Academy is thrilled to extend its congratulations to Abi, a year 11 student whose remarkable achievements at the recent British Gymnastics Championships held at Liverpool M&S Arena have brought immense pride.

Abi secured a silver medal for the vault and bronze medals in the beam and all-around categories, highlighting extraordinary talent and dedication.

Abi's journey in gymnastics began at the age of five, marking the foundation of what promises to be a promising athletic career. She currently refines her skills under the tuition and support of the South Devon School of Gymnastics.

When asked about her mindset stepping onto the vault and beam during the intense competition, Abi shared insights into her mental preparation: "Control your nerves and think of it as a normal training session. I've already done the hard work to get there."

In addition to her intense training schedule, Abi credits Paignton Academy for providing unwavering support in balancing her academic responsibilities with her athletic pursuits. She emphasised: "The school is very good at making sure I don't miss out on gym opportunities, and work is put online so I don't fall behind."

Looking ahead, Abi’s ultimate dream is to represent Great Britain at the senior world championship, with the Olympics as a pinnacle aspiration. She acknowledges the hard path ahead but remains devoted in her commitment to hard work and training. Abi currently dedicates herself to training five days a week, investing an impressive 26 hours per week in pursuit of her dreams.

Abi's achievements serve as an inspiration to her peers and a testament to the unwavering support of her coaches, school, and the community.

The Assistant Principal at Paignton Academy, David Carpenter, expressed: "Abi's success fills us with pride and embodies our school's ethos of ambition. Her dedication and commitment to her sport are truly inspiring.”
