Penbridge Infant School welcomes special guest for talk

Children at Penbridge Infant School recently received a visit from the Lady Mayoress of Portsmouth.

The Lady Mayoress of Portsmouth delivered a talk to inspire children in Year 1 to talk about what it means for her husband to be the Lord Mayor, with her support as Lady Mayoress.

She answered questions about how they became Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress, why they wear a chain around their necks, and what clothes they wear for special events.

The children gasped in awe when they learned the Lord Mayor's gown was made from gold thread and dates back to times when Henry VIII was on the throne.

The visit was in support of Aspirations Week, a citywide initiative to encourage pupils to aspire to do what they wish and be their best selves.
